Byholma flygbas fält 85

Photo date: 29 June 2007

One of many road bases used by the Swedish air force during the cold war, a so called Bas90. This one is situated just outside the small village of Byholma. Since the storm Gudrun in January 2005 when over 300 000 000 (!) trees fell in this region, this airbase has been converted to one of the largest lumber storage in the world, now including 1 000 000 m3 of timber. This will stay at this place until 2010, otherwise the market would be saturated. It is now a popular tourist place with a tourbus going in the summer. In later years the storage has been closed and the field left to its destiny.
